Construction of the Taiwan Solar Energy Corporation (TSEC) Hsinchu plant was completed yesterday. As a token of gratitude for the effective assistance provided by the Hsinchu County Government during the construction process, TSEC Chairman of the Board Ellick Liao presented Hsinchu County Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun with the very first silicon wafer solar cell produced by the factory. According to President Xie Zhenyang, the solar power industry, much like the rising sun, is a rising sector with a highly promising future. TSEC has the ambition to become a global leader in the solar power industry, becoming the light of Taiwan and the pride of Hsinchu.

According to Xie Zhenyang, TSEC has forged close links with Japan, Germany, and Australia for the production and sale of crystalline silicon solar cells. Much like the semiconductor industry, solar power is a “brainpower” industry with highly promising prospects for the future. It also represents a promising employment option for a new generation of people entering the workforce. At present, TSEC employs a total of 400 staff members, and this number is expected to increase to 1000 within the next half year.

According to Ellick Liao, construction of the TSEC Hisnchu plant commenced on October 8last year, and has since proceeded on schedule. At present, the construction of a 75,375 m2 steel-structure 4 story plant with two basement levels has been completed. Production units are currently in the process of being deployed and installed in the plant, and operations have already commenced. The production capacity of the plant is expected to reach 5 MW by October as originally scheduled, and the operating revenue of the plant in its first year is expected to reach 15 billion NTD. The Hsinchu County Government has provided TSEC with highly efficient assistance throughout the construction process. Inspired by this support, TSEC is confident that it will create new jobs in Hsinchu.

According to Xie Zhenyang, TSEC is dedicated to manufacturing the very best products using the most advanced manufacturing processes. The company will seek to stabilize prices and boost sales by adopting a strategy of product differentiation. At the same time, it will also make efforts to boost market competitiveness by cutting unit costs. The Hsinchu plant is poised to become the largest single-site solar cell plant in the world.

According to Chiu Ching-chun, TSEC has invested huge sums in the Hsinchu Industrial Park to build the largest single-site solar cell plant in the world. Solar power is set to become a trillion dollar industry in Taiwan, and TSEC will not only become the pride of Taiwan, but also of Hsinchu County as well.
